Wall Jar
Who can make a story from these phrases?
1) Can you DO that to an elephant?
2) You know it’s a good orgy when someone gets stuck between the bed and the wall.
3) Good God! It’s as big as a grapefruit.
4) Help! I’ve been taking captive by the freak show!
5) What do you expect? they’re Canadians.
6) I keep it in a jar on top of my t.v… and sometimes it talks to me.
this isn’t homework… it’s still summer.
I’ve never been in jail before, but I guess there’s a first time for everything. In this case, I’m going to make sure it’s also my last.
I met Alex at a rally in college. We were protesting something – I can’t even remember what it was now. Alex was always going to these kinds of meetings. He’s what you might consider a “fringe dweller”. You know, the kind of person who is not mainstream ANYTHING. After a few months we became fast friends.
Alex is like a magnet. He attracts weird people from all walks of life. Any party he throws is sure to be exciting. That’s how we all got into trouble this time. Last night about 9:00p.m. things were just getting started. As I walked through the door, Alex was deep in conversation with this purple-haired chick. He was talking about artificial insemination. “Can you DO that to an elephant?” she asked, eyes wide. “Of course,” said Alex. “It’s a whole lot easier than trying to get Jumbo into the mood. “Hey, Christy,” he said, motioning me over. “How’s it going?” “Oh, you know,” I said, “same old….”
More people were trickling in. The noise level increased about 50 decibels. It didn’t help that a mariachi band was trying to get people to sing with them. A small fight erupted and someone was shouting, “What do you expect? They’re Canadians!”
In the next room a guy with blonde dreadlocks and a faraway look was holding a glass container with what looked like a shrunken head inside. “Good God!”, said someone, “it’s as big as a grapefruit”. “It’s a gift from the Congo, he said dreamily. “I keep it in a jar on top of my t.v….and sometimes it talks to me”.
The noise level continued to get louder and the guests got progressively more bizarre. I went in search of a drink. The kitchen table held a contortionist who was looking at me through his splayed legs. Help! I thought. I’ve been taken captive by the freak show.
About 11:00p.m. the cops showed up. Alex stood on the coffee table and shouted for everybody to pipe down. The cops were getting ready to break up the party when a dwarf without pants came running out from the bedroom. He was being chased by a half-clothed drag queen. She batted her fake eyelashes, then said in a baritone voice, “You know it’s a good orgy when someone gets stuck between the bed and the wall”.
So that’s how we all got hauled down here. It’s okay, though. The lawyer at our party is already working on getting us out. I just hope these guys learned their lesson – because next week, the party’s at my house.

Since its creation during the Qing Dynasty (1644 1912), the dish has been regarded as a Chinese delicacy known for its rich taste, usage of various high-quality ingredients and special manner of cooking. The dish’s name is an allusion to the dish’s ability to entice the vegetarian monks from their temples to partake in the meat-based dish It is high in protein and calcium. The soup or stew consists of many ingredients of non-vegetarian origin and requires one to two full days to prepare. A typical recipe requires many ingredients including quail eggs, bamboo shoots, scallops, sea cucumber, abalone, shark fin, chicken, Jinhua ham, pork tendon, ginseng, mushrooms, and taro. Some recipes require up to thirty main ingredients and twelve condiments. Use of shark fin, which is sometimes harvested by shark finning, and abalone, which is implicated in destructive fishing practices are controversial for both environmental and ethical reasons. There are many stories on the origin of the dish. Among them, a common story is about a scholar traveling by foot during the Qing Dynasty. While he traveled with his friends, the scholar preserved all his food for the journey in a clay jar used for holding wine. Whenever he had a meal, he warmed up the jar with the ingredients over an open fire. Once they arrived in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province, the scholar started cooking the dish.
