Class Notes - November 1, 2008

The class read through four narratives.

First Narrative - Formula 1

Why should we buy this story?  Seeing things from different cultures adds to the overall experience.  Time shift collaboration is important when you need to meet a deadline.  How do you deal with the time difference?  Take shifts, collaborate once a day, different teams work on projects separately, then the Lead team puts them all together.

“Around the World” has to be pumped up.  Add the Tier One component to this story.  Software needs to provide translation for foreign languages.  Use microslicing technology for recording collaboration.  Provide close captioning on replay.  Leslie … Continue Reading

TechShop bills itself as a fully-equipped open-access workshop and creative environment. Their slogan “Build Your Dreams Here” focuses on the any time access to work on projects of your choice. Classes and Seminars are offered by those who know to those who wish to know, creating a collaborative learning environment. The founder, Jim Newton, believes it is a health club with tools and equipment instead of exercise equipment or as he calls it a Kinko’s for geeks. The idea is now franchising with another opening in North Carolina and up to ten more being created throughout the country.

The instructor asked each individual what they would like to see showing the final presentation of this project. The following ideas were collected from all individuals in the class:

Final result = presentation
Current teaching techniques = future technology
Collaborate now on how to uese these tools
Classrooms need to improve even if you get inferior teachers with painful subjects. The goal is to teach and learn. The equipment available to the classroom can make it successful.

Campus Wide and even global collaboration should be a goal.
